When a new baby comes to the house, this is cause for celebration. Unfortunately, this also a very sleepy and confusing time in the house. The new baby doesn't sleep that well or all that long when they come home from the hospital, and there is little time to think about baby announcements. But the irony is that all of your friends and family will want to know what is going on.
I have found that well planned baby announcements are a great way to keep people in the loop on the new infant but also protect the privacy of the new family. One idea is to buy your baby announcements early - get everything set before the baby arrives. Then, when you have a picture, you can finalize the announcement cards easily and send them out. This way, all the other stuff is taken care of - fonts, card stock, colors, style - all that other baby announcement card stuff.
Trust me, when you first come home from the hospital - announcement cards will be the last thing on your mind. But when people come visiting every day because they want to meet the new baby, you may wish you had sent out the announcement as a way to keep them away for a few weeks. Think about it.
