Not everyone enjoys mowing their lawn, and not everyone is physically capable of doing so with a push mower. Unless you have a tiny yard that is perfectly level, there is definitely a good degree of effort required to operate a hand mower. While good exercise, it may turn some people off of mowing their grass for any number of reasons. The alternatives for folks who do not wish to use a push mower are to hire a landscaping service to do the work, or to purchase a ride on lawn mower and do it themselves, but from the comfort of a seat. A lawn care service can be a costly option. The charges will continue as long as you need to have your lawn mode, which will be a lifetime if you continue to live in a home with a yard. There is also the issue of reliability; any time you have a service provided regularly by a vendor, there is always a chance of a missed appointment or even the simple matter of the lawn growing faster than expected due to a warm, wet season.
Having a ride on lawn mower still does require effort, and yes, they can be more expensive than push mowers, but not in all cases. Some very high end push mowers can rival or exceed the costs of lower end ride on lawn mower machines. A reasonably chosen ride on lawn mower that is just large enough to fulfill the needs of a yard can offer a great return on investment compared to lawn care service. As long as you take care of the ride on lawn mower, it can and will last for many years, and compared with paying someone to do the cutting for you. Some also might even find a ride on lawn mower fun to drive. There is some effort to operating a ride on lawn mower, but it is exponentially less than using a push mower and certainly makes the process go faster. It is a viable alternative for those who do not wish to push mow their yards.
